IMED JEMAIEL
Born in 1965. He lives and works in Tunis, Tunisia. The challenge: Evolving in the space between teaching and art, writing and figure, page and canvas… desiring ardently this space, necessarily a hybrid third place, compromising and indebted as much to art as to life!
In Brussels, on July 1st, I have to continue my task. A table, just a table, and I find my footing again, with the continuous thread of my acrylic ink, weaving and unraveling at the whim of a complex rhythm engaging nerves and muscles, breath and ideas!
ARTIST STATEMENT
What about the genius of the place? It is certainly part of it, subtly acting without fanfare, leaving its presence barely on the surface of the paper…
Let us return to our canvases and drawings, where Eric enjoys seeing or glimpsing “secret gardens.” I fully embrace this metaphor, ultimately agricultural. We plow and we sow; the blade-feather-point awakens the surface from its deep sleep that defends it. The landscape takes shape, plot by plot, ink bursts forth, scatters, spreads in germinations, rhizomes, branches, and ramifications defying all accountability. The stains and lines attempt a strange cartography where fauna and flora configure and record a shared destiny since the same ink circulates through their veins.
